Infidelity is a major threat to relationship stability and emotional well-being. This systematic literature review examines the association between Dark Triad personality traits, namely narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy, and infidelity behaviors and intentions within romantic relationships. Following PRISMA guidelines, 12 studies were selected from four databases, including a total of 3,093 adult participants in monogamous relationships. All three Dark Triad traits showed positive correlations with infidelity, with psychopathy being the strongest predictor. Narcissism was the most frequently analysed trait, inclufing observation on its subtypes (grandiouse and vulnerable), and gender differences. Moderating factors such as relationship satisfaction, attachment styles, emotional intelligence, and moral disengagement were identified. Both offline and online infidelity were examined, with dating apps emerging as key platforms for extradyadic behavior. These findings highlight the correlation between maladaptive personality traits and unfaithful conduct, suggesting directions for future research on personality and relationships.

Abstract
These findings highlight the correlation between maladaptive personality traits and unfaithful conduct, suggesting directions for future research on personality and relationships.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
