Talking about the nutritional pattern of a woman, the pregnancy period is one of the most difficult phases of life, since the mother, for the first time, has to care about an extraneous life that rises into her body. The ongoing and the outcome of the pregnancy are highly influenced by the nutritional habits adopted before and during this delicate period: the most harmful starting points conditions are the maternal malnourishment or obesity, which can lead to several dysfunctions to the child’s health at birth and even during the following lifetime. Since the mother should pay a higher attention on what does she eat, having a special look on the vitamins and the micronutrients assumed is a key point, in order to satisfy the requirements and avoid malformations or deficiencies in both the fetus and the mother. Although every woman is different and the nutritional requirements are strictly personal, the general advice of eating healthy, including a sufficient variety of foods, an adequate overall energy and protein intake, and an enough quantity of micronutrients would surely lead to a correct pregnancy weight gain, in line with the standard weight values, ensuring the health of both the baby and the mother and her best recovery after the partum.
