The paper aims to investigate the psychosocial factors that determine the behavior of separating plastic, glass, and aluminum waste in the workplace. The theoretical framework of reference is the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB; Ajzen, 1991), extended with supervisory support (Costa et al., 2022). The research was conducted in two phases (T1 and T2). At T1, a first online questionnaire was administered to measure the TPB constructs and supervisory support. At T2, the self-reported behavior of waste separation in the workplace, carried out in the four weeks prior, was assessed. The participants were 724 Italian working adults (45.3% women; mean age = 40.7 years). The results showed that the model explained 33.8% of the variance in intention and 24.9% of the variance in behavior. The predictors of intention were attitude toward the behavior, subjective norm, and perceived behavioral control. Intention and subjective norm predicted behavior. Supervisory support was not found to be associated with either intention or behavior. The findings suggest the importance of strengthening the role of normative influence in promoting recycling from co-workers and supervisors, with the aim of fostering the emergence of pro-environmental behaviors among employees in the workplace.

Abstract
The findings suggest the importance of strengthening the role of normative influence in promoting recycling from co-workers and supervisors, with the aim of fostering the emergence of pro-environmental behaviors among employees in the workplace.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
