This study, commissioned by the motorcycle apparel company SPIDI SPORT SRL, aimed to evaluate the performance of various back protector models on the market. The analyzed samples were classified based on their characteristics and divided into devices made of a single polymer and devices with a sandwich structure, consisting of different polymer layers. The research paid particular attention to the types of materials used in the devices, with the aim of cataloging them and observing their main characteristics. The performance data were obtained through impact tests following the guidelines of the UNI EN 1621-2 standard, although the test protocol was partially adapted to the company's measuring instrument. The experimental data obtained allowed us to identify the protectors with the best performance, pinpoint the structurally weakest areas, and observe how the curves obtained from the impact test vary based on specific construction configurations.
Questo studio, commissionato dall’azienda di abbigliamento per motociclisti SPIDI SPORT SRL, ha l’obiettivo di valutare le prestazioni di diversi modelli di paraschiena presenti sul mercato. I campioni analizzati sono stati classificati in base alle loro caratteristiche e divisi tra dispositivi formati da un polimero unico e dispositivi con struttura a sandwich, costituiti da strati polimerici differenti. La ricerca ha posto particolare attenzione alle tipologie di materiali impiegati nei dispositivi, con l’obiettivo di catalogarli e di osservare le loro caratteristiche principali. Le prestazioni sono state ottenute tramite dei test di impatto seguendo le direttive della normativa UNI EN 1621-2, sebbene il protocollo del test sia stato adattato parzialmente allo strumento di misura presente in azienda. I dati sperimentali ottenuti hanno permesso di individuare i protettori con le migliori prestazioni, di individuare le zone strutturalmente più deboli e di osservare come le curve ottenute dal test d’impatto varino in base a particolari configurazioni costruttive.
