This thesis proposes to verify, through finite element analysis, the mechanical response of a femur with a hip prosthesis when subjected to a typical load during walking. Starting with an anatomical introduction to hip prosthetic implants and the techniques for anchoring the stem to the femur (using both bone cement and press-fit methods), the study develops a 3D model of the femur based on CT images, simulating a hip replacement surgery. Subsequently, two distinct approaches are proposed for the Ansys simulation of these anchoring methods; the differences in the bone's mechanical response are analyzed, and finally, the most critical areas are identified.

Abstract
This thesis proposes to verify, through finite element analysis, the mechanical response of a femur with a hip prosthesis when subjected to a typical load during walking. Starting with an anatomical introduction to hip prosthetic implants and the techniques for anchoring the stem to the femur (using both bone cement and press-fit methods), the study develops a 3D model of the femur based on CT images, simulating a hip replacement surgery. Subsequently, two distinct approaches are proposed for the Ansys simulation of these anchoring methods; the differences in the bone's mechanical response are analyzed, and finally, the most critical areas are identified.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
