The titanium alloy market is currently experiencing growth, driven primarily by demand from the aerospace sector. One of the main technological challenges associated with the use of titanium is its welding, which is considerably more complex than that of conventional materials. This work will first describe the most commonly used titanium alloys and their properties. It will then examine the welding processes employed for these alloys, along with the associated challenges. Finally, an assessment will be made of the defects that can arise during the welding process, discussing their underlying causes, how they can be detected, and strategies for minimizing their occurrence.
Il mercato delle leghe di titanio è in questo momento in crescita, spinto dalla domanda del settore aerospaziale. Uno dei maggiori problemi tecnologici posti dall’utilizzo del titanio è quello della sua saldatura, che è molto complicata rispetto a quella dei materiali tradizionali. In questo elaborato si descriveranno le leghe di titanio più usate e le loro proprietà. Si proseguirà poi illustrando i processi usati per la saldatura delle leghe di titanio e le problematiche ad essi associate. Infine, si compirà una valutazione dei difetti che si possono creare durante il processo di saldatura, spiegando a che fattori sono dovuti, come possono essere individuati e minimizzati.
