Zona Speciale di Conservazione "Palù dei Mùgheri". Valutazione dello stato di conservazione di un habitat umido della Direttiva Habitat 92/43/CEE nel Parco Naturale Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino

In Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino Natural Park, there are three Sites of Community Importance (SCI) that are part of the Natura 2000 Network. The smallest but most interesting of these sites is the Palù dei Mùgheri biotope, a wetland area characterized by active raised bogs and wooded bogs. In addition to being a site of natural and ecological significance, the biotope also has a connection to human history. Specifically, it has been altered and exploited by the historical extraction of peat, used as fossil fuel. The types of habitats found in this wetland are designated as priority habitats under the "Habitats" Directive 92/43/EEC, and are therefore considered worthy of more rigorous and attentive restoration and conservation measures. For this reason, in 2018, the Park Authority initiated a recovery and management plan for this SCI, which has since become a Special Conservation Area (SCA). The objective of this study is to assess the conservation status of the Palù dei Mùgheri wetland by comparing monitoring data from 2018 and 2023 with the most recent data collected in the summer of 2025. Through this periodic monitoring, it is possible to evaluate whether the recovery and restoration measures implemented to date are suitable for maintaining this priority habitat.

All'interno del territorio del Parco Naturale Paneveggio-Pale di San Martino ricadono 3 Siti di Importanza Comunitaria (SIC), inseriti all’interno della Rete Natura 2000. Il sito meno esteso coincide con il biotopo Palù dei Mùgheri, una zona umida caratterizzata dalla presenza di torbiere alte attive e torbiere boscate. Il biotopo, oltre ad essere un sito di rilievo naturalistico ed ecologico, è anche legato alla storia antropica. In particolare, esso è legato ad una storia di alterazione e sfruttamento ambientale causati dall’estrazione della torba usata un tempo come combustibile fossile. I tipi di habitat che caratterizzano la zona umida sono indicati come prioritari nella Direttiva “Habitat” 92/43/CEE e per questo sono considerati meritevoli di azioni di ripristino e salvaguardia più attente e rigorose. Per questo motivo, nell’anno 2018 l’Ente Parco ha avviato un piano di recupero e gestione di questo SIC diventando quindi una Zona speciale di Conservazione o ZSC a tutti gli effetti. L'obiettivo di questo studio è valutare lo stato di conservazione della zona umida Palù dei Mùgheri comparando i monitoraggi effettuati negli anni 2018 e 2023 con quelli più recenti svolti nell'estate del 2025. Attraverso questi monitoraggi periodici è possibile quindi valutare se le misure di recupero e ripristino portate avanti fino al giorno d’oggi siano adatte per il mantenimento di questo habitat prioritario.
