The aim of this thesis is to describe a particular hydraulic phenomenon, typical of embanked riverbeds, called sand boil. In practice, it is a source that is formed by infiltration of water from the inside of the riverbed to the outside of an embankment and develops especially during flood events. In particular, the first part of the thesis will focus on the description of sand boil with some reference to the reasons for their formation and the danger they pose with reference to flood phenomena. We will then move on to a more detailed description of the filtration and siphoning mechanisms that are generated inside the ground when this type of phenomenon occurs and the influence that climatic conditions can bring, for example, by intensifying or increasing the quantity of sand boil that develop in a given territory. The measures typically used to prevent and combat sand boil will then be illustrated. The discussion will be enriched by a series of examples.

Abstract
The discussion will be enriched by a series of examples.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
