Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state welding technology that has revolutionized the joining processes of metallic materials, particularly lightweight alloys used in the aerospace sector. This technique, based on friction and plastic deformation, enables the production of welds with high mechanical quality while minimizing the typical defects associated with fusion welding. This thesis analyzes the operating principles of FSW, its technical characteristics, and the advantages it offers over traditional methods. Special attention is given to aerospace applications, with reference to real-world case studies in which FSW has been implemented, such as those by Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and SpaceX.

Abstract
Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state welding technology that has revolutionized the joining processes of metallic materials, particularly lightweight alloys used in the aerospace sector. This technique, based on friction and plastic deformation, enables the production of welds with high mechanical quality while minimizing the typical defects associated with fusion welding. This thesis analyzes the operating principles of FSW, its technical characteristics, and the advantages it offers over traditional methods. Special attention is given to aerospace applications, with reference to real-world case studies in which FSW has been implemented, such as those by Boeing, Lockheed Martin, and SpaceX.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
