Healthcare digitalization can have a crucial impact in developing countries, where the scarcity and limitations of infrastructure and the shortage of qualified personnel make it difficult to ensure fair and widespread access to care. In these contexts, telemedicine often represents the only concrete alternative for receiving healthcare services. This thesis highlights both the benefits and the challenges of using ICT to support healthcare services, focusing on developing countries and presenting real cases of telemedicine projects in Uganda and India. An interesting paradigm discussed in the paper is OpenMRS, an open-source health information system widely adopted in Africa and Asia, whose modular and cost-free structure makes it a concrete opportunity to strengthen clinical management and support national digitalization strategies.

Abstract
Healthcare digitalization can have a crucial impact in developing countries, where the scarcity and limitations of infrastructure and the shortage of qualified personnel make it difficult to ensure fair and widespread access to care. In these contexts, telemedicine often represents the only concrete alternative for receiving healthcare services. This thesis highlights both the benefits and the challenges of using ICT to support healthcare services, focusing on developing countries and presenting real cases of telemedicine projects in Uganda and India. An interesting paradigm discussed in the paper is OpenMRS, an open-source health information system widely adopted in Africa and Asia, whose modular and cost-free structure makes it a concrete opportunity to strengthen clinical management and support national digitalization strategies.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
