This thesis aims to analyze how car bodywork can be exploited differently for aerodynamic benefits in motor racing. The first part, following a theoretical overview, analyzes some application examples , with a primary focus on motorsports and some references to road cars. The thesis concludes with an analysis of the bodywork design of a Formula Student electric car, including a description of the design constraints, solutions, and CFD studies. In particular, the development of the exposed body parts, the nose, the front suspension cover, and a cover located under the car are explored in depth.
Questa tesi ha l’obbiettivo di analizzare come all’interno delle corse automobilistiche si possa sfruttare in modo diverso il bodywork delle vetture per benefici aerodinamici. Nella prima parte, in seguito a cenni teorici, si vanno ad analizzare alcuni esempi applicativi di quanto descritto, con principale focus sul motorsport e qualche cenno alle auto stradali. La tesi si conclude con un’analisi riguardante la progettazione del bodywork di una vettura elettrica di “Formula Student”, includendo la descrizione dei vincoli di design, le soluzioni e studi di tipo cfd. In particolare si approfondisce lo sviluppo delle parti esposte della scocca, del musetto, della copertura delle sospensioni anteriori e di una cover posta al di sotto dell’auto
