This thesis falls within the field of mathematics education in primary school and focuses on introducing statistics through a narrative and hands-on approach. The project began with the statistical fairy tales developed by ISTAT, in particular Il dottor Box-plot and Un letto lungo un sogno. These stories served as an effective tool to actively and meaningfully engage students, supporting the understanding of complex statistical concepts through accessible and motivating language. Starting from the narratives, some fundamental elements of descriptive statistics—such as mode, median, and arithmetic mean—were explored, accompanied by practical activities involving the collection, organization, and interpretation of data. In a second phase of the project, the box-plot was introduced, a method of graphical representation that is rarely used in primary education but offers significant didactic potential. Through hands-on experiences and group reflections, students were able to compare the box-plot with other types of charts, identifying its features and usefulness. The thesis reflects on the effectiveness of the chosen approach, highlighting how the combination of storytelling, active learning, and innovative tools can foster the development of statistical skills and critical thinking in children, in line with national curriculum guidelines.

Abstract
The thesis reflects on the effectiveness of the chosen approach, highlighting how the combination of storytelling, active learning, and innovative tools can foster the development of statistical skills and critical thinking in children, in line with national curriculum guidelines.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
