Spanglish is a hybrid language that has existed for decades and has played an essential role for the integration of Spanish-speaking immigrants in the United States. This thesis aims to analyse this phenomenon among Spanish-speaking communities of United States, Mexico and other countries of Latin America. In particular, it investigates how these communities use Spanglish and how they perceive it. Firstly, the main characteristics, history and definition are outlined. Then, it focuses on its usage and perception, which can be positive or negative depending on different individual perspectives. Lastly, in order to collect actual data, a survey was conducted, and its results supported the realisation of this study. These data highlight a domestic use of Spanglish by young people and an overall negative view of the phenomenon. Although the results represent a limited contribution to the research, they emphasise the crucial role of Spanglish as a communicative and identity-based tool for many Spanish-speaking individuals.

Abstract
Although the results represent a limited contribution to the research, they emphasise the crucial role of Spanglish as a communicative and identity-based tool for many Spanish-speaking individuals.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
