corpi contagiati: la resistenza omosessuale e l’AIDS sotto la dittatura cilena

This thesis stems from a desire to understand what it means to live on the margins in a context of strong repression, like Chile during Pinochet’s dictatorship. It focuses on the experiences of homosexual people during those years, when, in addition to political violence, the arrival of AIDS brought new forms of fear and exclusion. The disease became an excuse to reinforce stigma and silence around certain bodies and identities. Through the study of texts, testimonies, and cultural analysis, I tried to reconstruct not only a history of suffering, but also of resistance. A central part of this work is the figure of Pedro Lemebel, who, through his writing, gave a voice to those who didn’t have one. This thesis is meant as a way to give attention and dignity back to those who were ignored, and to reflect on how memory itself can become a form of struggle.

Questa tesi nasce dal desiderio di capire cosa significhi vivere ai margini in un contesto di forte repressione, come quello del Cile durante la dittatura di Pinochet. Il lavoro si concentra sulle esperienze delle persone omosessuali in quegli anni, in un periodo in cui, oltre alla violenza politica, l’arrivo dell’AIDS ha portato nuove forme di esclusione e paura. La malattia è diventata un pretesto per rafforzare lo stigma e il silenzio attorno a certi corpi e identità. Attraverso lo studio di testi, testimonianze e analisi culturali, ho cercato di ricostruire non solo una storia di sofferenza, ma anche di resistenza. Un punto centrale del mio percorso è stato l’incontro con la figura di Pedro Lemebel, che con la sua scrittura ha dato voce a chi non ne aveva. Questo lavoro vuole essere un modo per restituire attenzione e dignità a chi è stato ignorato, e per riflettere su come la memoria possa diventare una forma di lotta.
