This thesis examines the relationship between reality, dream, and fiction within the context of the Spanish Baroque, through a comparative analysis of La vida es sueño by Pedro Calderón de la Barca and Don Quijote de la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. Dream, illusion, and disillusionment are interpreted as key categories in a worldview marked by uncertainty and the tension between freedom and fate. In Calderón’s work, the dream takes on an allegorical and metaphysical value; in Cervantes, chivalric fiction becomes a reflection on identity and the subjective construction of reality. The comparison between Segismundo and Don Quixote reveals two complementary visions of the Baroque human condition, suspended between appearance and truth. The thesis is divided into four chapters: the first introduces the Siglo de Oro and the core concepts of Baroque thought; the second focuses on Calderón and La vida es sueño as a drama of human existence; the third analyses Don Quijote as a novel of fiction and disillusionment; the fourth offers a thematic and formal comparison between the two works, showing how dream and fiction become tools for understanding and questioning reality.
