This thesis aims to analyze The Twelve by Aleksandr Blok, a poem written in the months following the October Revolution, as a key text for understanding the transition from Tsarist Russia to revolutionary Russia. The work, rich in symbolism, historical tension, and contrasts between the sacred and the profane, presents a complex challenge for poetic translation due to its rhythmic, stylistic, and cultural richness. The objective of the thesis is to compare the main Italian and Spanish translations of the poem, investigating the strategies adopted by translators to convey the poetic and symbolic impact of the original in two different linguistic and cultural contexts. The first chapter introduces the figure of Aleksandr Blok, the content of the work, and the historical context in which it was composed. The second chapter focuses on the Italian translations, analyzing the translation choices and their reception. The third chapter addresses the Spanish versions, following a similar approach. Through this comparison, the thesis seeks to demonstrate how poetic translation constitutes an act of interpretation and cultural rewriting, in which fidelity to the original text must inevitably contend with the peculiarities of the target language and its cultural imagination.
Questa tesi ha l’intento di analizzare I dodici di Aleksandr Blok, poemetto scritto nei mesi successivi alla Rivoluzione d’Ottobre, come testo chiave per comprendere il passaggio dalla Russia zarista alla Russia rivoluzionaria. L’opera, densa di simbolismo, tensioni storiche e contrasti tra sacro e profano, rappresenta una sfida complessa per la traduzione poetica, a causa della sua ricchezza ritmica, stilistica e culturale. L’obiettivo della tesi è mettere a confronto le principali traduzioni italiane e spagnole del poema, indagando le strategie adottate dai traduttori per restituire l’impatto poetico e simbolico dell’originale in due contesti linguistici e culturali differenti. Nel primo capitolo viene introdotta la figura di Aleksandr Blok, il contenuto dell’opera e il contesto storico in cui fu composta. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato alle traduzioni italiane, con un'analisi delle scelte traduttive e della loro ricezione. Il terzo capitolo affronta le versioni spagnole, seguendo un approccio analogo. Attraverso questo confronto, la tesi intende dimostrare come la traduzione poetica si configuri come un atto di interpretazione e riscrittura culturale, in cui la fedeltà al testo originale deve necessariamente confrontarsi con le peculiarità della lingua d’arrivo e del suo immaginario.
