The thesis aims to analyze Plutarch's work by focusing on and examining the sections and passages in which the three main themes that characterize the life of the Roman politician and general emerge: his boundless, excessive, and according to Plutarch almost pathological ambition; demagoguery and the other political strategies through which he gained unprecedented power and support, considering his (relatively) modest origins; and finally, the civil war in which he played a leading role, a conflict that forever altered the history of the Roman Republic. The work unfolds and takes shape with the help of various historiographical works that, in order to address the figure of Marius, have over time thoroughly analyzed both his Plutarchan biography and other ancient historiographical texts concerning the events in wich he was involved. These works have produced interesting, and at times divergent, interpretations that will be appropriately compared.

Abstract
These works have produced interesting, and at times divergent, interpretations that will be appropriately compared.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
