This thesis, through the case of Elon Musk and the rebranding of Twitter to X, analyzes the relationship between political communication and social media. The objective is to understand how Elon Musk's communication on X reflects and influences the contemporary dynamics of digital politics. The first chapter provides a theoretical framework on social media, exploring its definitions and dynamics; pop politics and algorithms are defined, as well as forms of online propaganda. The reflection is enriched by the discussion of the book “The Revolt of the Public and the Crisis of Authority in the New Millennium” by Martin Gurri. The second chapter provides a reconstruction of Elon Musk's profile as an entrepreneur, of his companies, and retraces the rebranding of Twitter to X, focusing on the platform's policies, the algorithm, and Musk's role in US politics. The third chapter is dedicated to the analysis of Musk's communication on X. Through the collection and direct analysis of tweets published by Musk and tools for social media analysis like Popsters and for qualitative data analysis (AntConc), the following are analyzed: the frequency of posts, engagement techniques, framing strategies, the use of memes and polarization, as well as the construction of a pop politics and the ability to influence public discourse, including through disinformation. The thesis concludes with a reflection on the implications that these communicative practices can have on digital democracy, integrating the concepts discussed in the first chapters with the evidence that emerged from the empirical analysis.
