This thesis, The Sound of the Soul: Musicality and Mysticism in the Liturgical Drama Ordo Virtutum by Hildegard of Bingen, aims to explore Hildegard’s view that the soul is intrinsically musical. Through an analysis of her liturgical drama Ordo Virtutum, it investigates the deep connection between music, the soul, and the spiritual dimension. The study considers the Ordo Virtutum not only as an artistic and devotional expression, but also as a vehicle for a profound and evolutionary message addressed to the human being, offering—through liturgical music and sacred performance—valuable tools for navigating incarnation and the challenges of earthly life. In this context, music emerges as a means through which the soul reconnects with its divine essence and participates in universal harmony.
