This thesis aims to investigate the evolution of the rivalry between the United States and China, with particular attention to the transformation of a competition that was initially economic in nature into an increasingly marked confrontation on political, strategic, and ideological levels. Taiwan represents the epicenter of this escalation, serving as a crucial node in the contest between two opposing models of power: American liberal democracy and Chinese authoritarianism. Through a historical, economic, and geopolitical analysis, the study will examine the stages of China’s rise as a global power, the gradual deterioration of relations with Washington, and the growing centrality of the Indo-Pacific region. The case of Taiwan is explored as a major point of friction between the two superpowers—a symbol of what is at stake not only in strategic and military terms, but also in terms of values and international law. By highlighting the dynamics of the so-called “New Cold War,” the thesis will focus on possible future scenarios and the broader implications for the international order, extending beyond the Indo-Pacific area.

Abstract
By highlighting the dynamics of the so-called “New Cold War,” the thesis will focus on possible future scenarios and the broader implications for the international order, extending beyond the Indo-Pacific area.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
