The link between politics and ethics is one of the oldest and most complex themes in the history of human thought. Since the beginning of philosophical reflection, the relationship between political power and ethical principles has raised fundamental questions regarding the nature of authority, justice and the common good. From the reflections of Plato and Aristotle on the ideal of an effective government, passing through the contract theories of Hobbes, Locke and Rousseau, up to the contemporary analyzes of Hannah Arendt, the debate on how and to what extent politics should be influenced by Ethical considerations continued to develop. This introduction aims to offer an overview of the main issues and challenges relating to the link between politics and ethics, outlining the main theoretical approaches and their practical implications.
