This thesis offers a critical analysis of contemporary populism, beginning with a theoretical overview of the concept and its historical evolution. After outlining the main interpretations of populism and its ideological variants, the work focuses on a comparative analysis of two representative case studies: SYRIZA, a left-wing populist party that rose to prominence in Greece during the economic crisis, and La Lega, a key example of right-wing populism in Italy. By examining political discourse, the construction of “the people,” and the identification of common enemies, the thesis highlights both the similarities and differences between these movements, shedding light on the transformations and contradictions of populism in the contemporary European context.

Abstract
This thesis offers a critical analysis of contemporary populism, beginning with a theoretical overview of the concept and its historical evolution. After outlining the main interpretations of populism and its ideological variants, the work focuses on a comparative analysis of two representative case studies: SYRIZA, a left-wing populist party that rose to prominence in Greece during the economic crisis, and La Lega, a key example of right-wing populism in Italy. By examining political discourse, the construction of “the people,” and the identification of common enemies, the thesis highlights both the similarities and differences between these movements, shedding light on the transformations and contradictions of populism in the contemporary European context.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
