The aim of the thesis is to analyze a key historical event of the Cold War, the1956 Hungarian Revolution as portrayed in the Italian press of the time, taking into account the different political orientations of the newspapers, such as l’Unità, newspaper of the Communist Party, l’Avanti, of the Socialist Party, La Stampa and Corriere della Sera, both pro-Western. Furthermore, a specific focus is dedicated to the consequences that the journalistic narration of the revolution had on the PCI, highlighting and contributing to the tensions and the first forms of dissent within the party. The research, therefore, is based on the analysis of the various newspaper's articles published during the revolt, illustrating the differences between the newspapers.
La tesi ha come obiettivo quello di analizzare un evento storico fondamentale della Guerra Fredda, ossia la Rivoluzione ungherese del 1956 all’interno della stampa italiana dell’epoca, tenendo conto dei diversi orientamenti politici dei quotidiani, come l’Unità, giornale del Partito Comunista, l’Avanti, del Partito Socialista, La Stampa e il Corriere della Sera, entrambi filo-occidentali. Inoltre, un focus specifico viene dedicato alle ripercussioni che la narrazione giornalistica della rivolta ha avuto sul PCI, mettendo in luce e contribuendo alle tensioni e alle prime forme di dissenso all’interno del partito. La ricerca, quindi, si basa sull’analisi degli articoli di giornale pubblicati durante la rivoluzione, evidenziando le differenze tra i quotidiani.
