Gambling, a growing phenomenon among young people and adults, has been the subject of extensive research to understand the psychological and social factors that contribute to its onset and maintenance. Among these, Relative Deprivation (RD), or the subjective perception of being at an economic disadvantage compared to others, has emerged as a potential predictor of dysfunctional gambling-related behaviors. This thesis aims to examine the relationship between RD and gambling through a review of scientific literature published between 2008 and 2021. After a theoretical framework for the two constructs, 10 articles selected from academic databases such as PubMed and Galileo Discovery are analyzed, with a focus on the underlying psychological mechanisms for example perceived stress, social comparison, impulsivity, and immediate gratification. The results suggest that the perception of relative social and economic deprivation is significantly associated with greater weaknesses in gambling behavior, especially among young individuals or in contexts protected by perceived inequalities, low self-esteem, or reduced cognitive and emotional resources. In conclusion, the review of the articles selected for this thesis highlights the importance of exploring the role of RD as a psychosocial risk factor, further underscoring the need for further research aimed at prevention and early intervention.

Abstract
In conclusion, the review of the articles selected for this thesis highlights the importance of exploring the role of RD as a psychosocial risk factor, further underscoring the need for further research aimed at prevention and early intervention.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
