This thesis explores the phenomenon of greenwashing, with particular attention to the strategies adopted in the fast fashion industry. The first two chapters focus on analyzing the topic, examining the main characteristics of greenwashing, the regulations, and the initiatives implemented to counter it, as well as the major scandals that have marked the evolution of the fashion industry. Special attention is given to the case of Zara, describing the company's history and success, but also the accusations regarding resource and labor exploitation. The following chapters delve deeper into the Zara case, with the third chapter introducing the concept of "moral disengagement" from Albert Bandura’s work "Moral disengagement: how people do harm and live with themselves". The strategies of moral disengagement are analyzed, as well as Bandura’s view on environmental sustainability, creating a theoretical bridge to the practical analysis presented in the fourth chapter. The final part of the thesis presents a thematic research aimed at verifying the truthfulness of Zara’s statements, exploring the possible use of greenwashing and moral disengagement techniques to manipulate consumer perception, creating a positive image of the company that may not correspond to reality.
