Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a psychopathological condition that affects a significant percentage of people of reproductive age and is characterized by particularly intense emotional, cognitive, and physical symptoms during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. This thesis investigates the impact of DDPM on quality of life, highlighting how this disorder profoundly interferes with work, social, and relationship functioning, and contributes to significant psychological distress. A multidisciplinary analysis explores the diagnostic dimensions, possible comorbidities with mood disorders, anxiety, as well as the biological and psychological factors involved in the genesis of the disorder, such as hormonal imbalances, neurobiological vulnerability, dysfunctional personality traits, and poor emotional regulation. The paper also explores the correlation between DDPM and conditions such as postpartum depression, self-harm, and sexual dysfunction, highlighting the complexity of the clinical picture. The cultural perception of the disorder and the often-lacking level of social awareness are also analyzed, which hinders early diagnosis and adequate care. Special attention is paid to the evolution of the DDPM over time and its cumulative impact on psychological well-being. Finally, the thesis proposes a critical reflection on psychological intervention strategies, the role of social support, and the importance of accessible educational resources, highlighting the need for integrated and personalized therapeutic approaches.
