Background: Clinical internship plays a key role in training Health Professions students, enabling experiential learning and professional skill development. In the BSc in Speech and Language Therapy at the University of Padua, internship monitoring has gained importance in recent years due to organizational changes, including new training sites and supervisors. In response to these changes, the VEAT questionnaire “Evaluation of the Internship Experience and Environment” has been adopted as a tool to gather students’ perceptions of the clinical training experience. Aim: This study analyzes the internship experience from the perspective of second-and third-year students of the BSc in Speech and Language Therapy, using data collected from the VEAT questionnaire between 2021 and 2025. The objective is to identify strengths and areas for improvement, providing suggestions for improvement to enhance the quality of the training program. Materials and Methods: This observational, descriptive, and retrospective study analyzed VEAT questionnaires, completed anonymously and administered via Google Forms. Quantitative data were processed using descriptive statistics, while open-ended responses were analyzed qualitatively. A dual approach was adopted, by thematic area and by individual item, with an annual comparison of the data to highlight trends, critical issues, and changes over time. Results: A total of 375 questionnaires were analyzed, revealing a general level of satisfaction with the internship experience, particularly in the areas of Climate, Internship Supervisor, and Perceptions. However, difficulties emerged regarding the management of evaluations and feedback by internship supervisors, as well as critical issues in the sections on Objectives, Activities and Learning, particularly in the Therapy area, where there is greater variability in the perception of therapeutic competencies. Students participation remains limited, though sufficient for analysis. The year-by-year analysis shows a generally stable and positive perception of the internship, with slight fluctuations toward more moderate evaluations over time. Discussion: The findings highlight an overall positive and educational internship experience, consistent with existing literature and confirming the value of incorporating students’ perspectives. However, several critical issues emerged, including inconsistency in the feedback provided by clinical supervisors, inadequacy of evaluation and debriefing moments, limited opportunities for active student participation, and insufficient collaboration between academic tutors and clinical supervisors. These issues underline the need for targeted improvement strategies. While the questionnaire proved useful, it also revealed methodological and participation-related limitations, indicating the need for revision to enhance its validity and dissemination. Conclusions: The student perspective is a key indicator for improving the internship experience. This preliminary provides analysis concrete insights for future actions, emphasizing the importance of enhancing the evaluation tool and promoting greater student engagement.
La partecipazione, sebbene adeguata all’analisi, resta limitata.
