ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Binge-eating Disorder (BED) is a pathology characterized by recurrent episodes of uncontrolled binge eating, associated with significant psychological distress but with the absence of inappropriate compensatory conduct typical of other eating disorders. Recognized as a distinct category in the DSM-5-TR, BED represents a growing public health challenge, with a significant impact on patients' physical and mental health. The nurse takes a crucial role in the integrated management of this condition, intervening from the early recognition stage through to therapeutic support and monitoring. PURPOSE’ AND OBJECTIVES: This thesis aims to analyze the role of the nurse in the management of BED through a literature review. The main objectives include the description of nursing skills for assessment and screening, the identification of interventions founded on evidence-based nursing for health promotion and psychological support, as well as collaboration with the multidisciplinary team for a comprehensive therapeutic approach. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A literature review was conducted using the databases of PubMed and Google Scholar, with keywords related to eating disorders, nursing role, therapeutic education and psychological support. Studies published in the last five years concerning patients with BED in different settings have included. Articles without abstracts or full text were excluded. The data were analyzed according to the PIO (Patient, Intervention, Outcome) methodology, focusing on nursing skills, screening tools and care outcomes. RESULTS: The review highlighted how the nurse has a multidimensional role in BED, which includes the use of validated screening tools such as the SCOFF questionnaire and the Binge-Eating Scale (BES) for the early identification of cases at risk. Clinical competencies complement relational skills critical to building an empathic therapeutic alliance, a crucial element for treatment adherence. The nurse also contributes to health promotion through mindful nutrition education, comorbidity monitoring, and emotional support. However, the studies analyzed show limitations related to the prevalence of female samples and specialized contexts, in addition to insufficient predictive accuracy of some diagnostic tools, indicating the need for insights and broader research. CONCLUSIONS: the nurse represents a strategic figure in the management of BED, capable of acting in different stages of the therapeutic process combining clinical, educational and relational skills. It is essential to enhance the specific and continuous training of nurses, develop more accurate diagnostic tools and promote person-centered and multidisciplinary care models. The challenge concerns the conduct of larger longitudinal studies, which can improve the validity of interventions and the quality of care, ensuring sustainable and personalized support for patients suffering from this type of disorder. PAROLE CHIAVE: Disturbo da Binge-Eating, infermiere, screening, educazione terapeutica, evidece-based nursing, supporto psicologico, percorso terapeutico, comorbidità.
