Child abuse is a major global health and social emergency. It includes physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as forms of neglect that compromise a child's development and health. This study analyzes the phenomenon from a healthcare, legal, and ethical perspective, with particular attention to the role of forensic nurses. Through a narrative review of the scientific literature conducted on PubMed and an analysis of national and international regulatory sources, focusing on texts produced between 2018 and 2024, it emerges that nurses play a crucial role in detecting signs of abuse, properly documenting injuries, preserving evidence, and reporting incidents to the relevant authorities. The Italian regulatory framework, together with the principles of the Nurses' Code of Ethics, confirms the professional and ethical responsibility to intervene in situations of suspected abuse. The findings underscore the importance of specific forensic training and interdisciplinary collaboration between healthcare, social care, and judicial professionals. Child protection, therefore, is not only a legal obligation, but also a fundamental ethical duty for nurses committed to safeguarding life and human dignity.
