ABSTARACT Context: Continuous demographic and epidemiological changes, as well as the social context, require ethical adaptation and ongoing training to meet people's needs. In wound care, it is essential to understand the different skin types and the different approaches considered based on pigmentation. Objectives: Identify the prevalence of wounds, verify the predictive capacity of assessment tools, and outline the care approaches to be adopted to prevent wounds in patients with highly pigmented skin. Materials and methods: This study used the following databases: PUB MED, SCOPUS, and CINAHL. Additionally, Google and Google Scholar were used for free searches. The literature review was conducted using the PIO (population/problem, intervention, outcome) methodology. Results: Article selection was conducted using the PRISMA Flow Chart tool. A total of 13 articles matching the search criteria were identified. Of these 13 articles, there were: 1 exploratory analysis, 1 multicenter prospective cohort study, 1 retrospective cohort study, 1 observational study, 1 new colorimetric scale classification tool, 1 pre/post experimental study, 2 review studies, 1 experimental study, 2 qualitative studies, 1 analytical study, and 1 prospective analytical study. Conclusions: The literature highlights how pressure ulcers in patients with pigmented skin represent a significant yet under-researched clinical problem, particularly in the Italian context.
