Airway management is one of the core nursing competencies in the care of intubated patients, as it is closely related to safety, the effectiveness of mechanical ventilation, and the prevention of respiratory complications. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the nurse’s role in the care of intubated patients, with particular focus on monitoring procedures, tracheal suctioning, maintaining airway patency, and the application of evidence-based best practices. Through a literature review, recent studies were examined highlighting the importance of clinical skills, continuous training, and the adoption of standardized protocols to reduce the risk of infections, hypoxemia, and tracheal injuries. Findings emphasize that the nurse plays a crucial role not only in performing technical procedures but also in supporting the multidisciplinary team and ensuring a patient-centered approach. In conclusion, proper nursing management of the airways in intubated patients is an essential factor in improving the quality of care and clinical outcomes, confirming the importance of shared guidelines and ongoing professional development.
