This thesis addresses the issue of environmental sustainability in reference to the Airport sector. Initially, climate change is analysed, examining its anthropogenic causes, effects and the main international agreements aimed at its containment. Subsequently, the focus is on the energy transition process, analysing the actions necessary to reduce emissions and promote sustainable development models, as well as their economic implications. Subsequently, the thesis focusses on the environmental impact generated by airport activities, illustrating the initiatives to mitigate it, with particular reference to the use of sustainable fuels (SAF) and economic market incentives; the discussion then continues with the analysis of possible design solutions aimed at increasing the energy and ecological efficiency of airport infrastructures; and then concludes with the study of concrete cases related to important European and Italian airports including London, Paris, Rome and Milan; in order to identify the strategies put in place to reduce pollution.
