Il mascheretto

The present thesis describes a particular hydrodynamic phenomenon known as a tidal bore, which is a steep tidal wave that travels upstream along a river, inducing a transient reversal of the flow. Significant tidal bores occur in northwestern Europe, eastern Asia, and South America, where tidal ranges are considerable. This study examines the characteristics of this wave, the conditions that lead to its formation, and its impact on the environment and hydraulic infrastructure. The thesis concludes with some notes on the tourism potential and the risks associated with this phenomenon, highlighting the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to its understanding and appreciation.

In questo lavoro di tesi viene descritto un fenomeno idrodinamico particolare, detto mascheretto, che consiste in un'onda di marea a fronte ripido che risale un corso d’acqua invertendone temporaneamente la corrente. A livello geografico, onde di intensità significativa si osservano in Europa nord-occidentale, Asia orientale e Sudamerica dove l’escursione di marea è notevole. Lo studio esamina le caratteristiche di queste onde, le condizioni che ne determinano la formazione e il loro impatto sull’ambiente e sulle infrastrutture idrauliche. La tesi si conclude con qualche considerazione sulle potenzialità turistiche e sui i rischi associati a questi fenomeni, evidenziando l’importanza di un approccio multidisciplinare per la loro comprensione e valorizzazione.
