The aim of my dissertation is to investigate the Magnus effect with a focus on its potential applications for power production. In the first part of the present thesis a general overview of the Magnus effect is provided, along with an illustration of the reasons behind this physical phenomenon that occurs when a spinning object is moving through a fluid. Subsequently, some engineering applications of the Magnus effect are taken into exam, including ship propulsion through Flettner rotors. Finally, this paper focuses on the application of the Magnus effect in power production through Magnus wind turbines equipped with rotating cylinders instead of traditional blades.

Abstract
The aim of my dissertation is to investigate the Magnus effect with a focus on its potential applications for power production. In the first part of the present thesis a general overview of the Magnus effect is provided, along with an illustration of the reasons behind this physical phenomenon that occurs when a spinning object is moving through a fluid. Subsequently, some engineering applications of the Magnus effect are taken into exam, including ship propulsion through Flettner rotors. Finally, this paper focuses on the application of the Magnus effect in power production through Magnus wind turbines equipped with rotating cylinders instead of traditional blades.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
