ABSTRACT PROBLEM: Blood donation is an act of great importance both socially and medically, essential to ensure the continuity of care in all clinical contexts. Despite its importance, youth participation remains limited, making it necessary to promote targeted educational and awareness-raising interventions. This shortage risks compromising the generational donors turnover and the constant availability of essential blood components for the healthcare system. OBJECTIVES: This thesis aims to analyze the effectiveness of a blood donation awareness project conducted through the peer education methodology and addressed to second-year students of the Nursing Degree Course at the University of Padua, Mestre campus. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive and observational study, took place on June 18 and 25, 2025, involving 132 students divided into four groups (two per day). The sessions, lasting just over an hour each, were led by a former nurse with expertise in health promotion and a third-year student, both donors and AVIS association volunteers. The intervention was based on an interactive approach (direct and participatory communication), enriched by informational videos, donor and recipient video testimonials, and discussion moments designed to stimulate students’ reflection. At the end of the session, an evaluation questionnaire was administered, followed by the collection of application forms for the eligibility screening. RESULTS: The results obtained were significant: 38 students (equal to 36.2% of all non-donors present) expressed the intention to undergo the eligibility screening at the transfusion center. Furthermore, the evaluation questionnaire revealed a high level of satisfaction regarding clarity, usefulness, and engagement of the educational activity. Comparison with similar projects carried out in high schools and with provincial and national data, confirms the validity of the model used. CONCLUSIONS: It can be stated that the project demonstrated how brief educational interventions and peer education are effective tools for promoting the culture of blood donation in the university context.
