The role of the hearing care professional in Italy has undergone a profound transformation over the past decades, evolving from a primarily technical-commercial position to an autonomous, responsible, regulated healthcare profession that is central to the care of individuals with hearing impairments. This thesis traces the key stages of this evolution: from the legal definition of the professional profile, to current clinical and ethical responsibilities, and finally to the future challenges and opportunities related to technological innovation, the digitalization of services, and the new perspective on hearing aids. The work is based on regulatory, ethical, and institutional sources, with reference to the 2023 AGCM (Italian Competition and Market Authority) survey, European and Italian medical device legislation, and the most recent developments in tele-audiology. The profession of the hearing care professional is thus confirmed as a cornerstone of auditory rehabilitation, playing an essential role in both individual and public health. It is therefore not merely a technician or seller of acoustic devices, even though, despite the evolution of the role, it remains strongly anchored in a commercial, product-centred approach rather than focusing on the professional work of the Hearing Aid Specialist and the health of the patient.

Abstract
It is therefore not merely a technician or seller of acoustic devices, even though, despite the evolution of the role, it remains strongly anchored in a commercial, product-centred approach rather than focusing on the professional work of the Hearing Aid Specialist and the health of the patient.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
