This dissertation examines the correlation between the roles of the audiometrist and the hearing aid specialist in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of childhood deafness. It highlights their relevant skills and areas of cooperation, as well as points of contact along the treatment pathway for hearing-impaired children. Deafness in children is one of the most common sensory disorders in the world and is a clinical condition that plays a significant role in a child's linguistic, cognitive, and social development. Early recognition and the timely establishment of an integrated diagnostic and rehabilitative process are the cornerstone for the full acquisition of language and interaction skills. The dissertation seeks to emphasize these two healthcare professionals as an integral part of the interdisciplinary audiology team, demonstrating the critical role that collaboration between the audiometrist and the hearing aid specialist plays in achieving the desired clinical and rehabilitative outcomes. This thesis was developed through a literature search, incorporating clinical standards, official ministerial documents, recommendations from the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing, and references to ethical codes and codes applied to the two healthcare professions. The data was collected discursively to facilitate presentation and logical organization, and was also summarized in comparative tables, comparing operational similarities and differences. A comparison was then conducted between two expert figures, comparing their activities, technical autonomy, and skills in the diagnosis and rehabilitation of childhood deafness. This investigation revealed how the two professions collaborate to address the health of children with hearing impairment, combining the diagnostic orientation of the audiometrist and the rehabilitative and practical approach of the hearing aid specialist. Collaboration between the two professionals becomes particularly important during hearing aid adjustment and monitoring the effectiveness of amplification, since ongoing professional dialogue is key to therapeutic effectiveness. In conclusion, the study emphasizes that the ongoing restructuring of healthcare professions will offer the opportunity to unite and develop the skills of two professionals who have different roles but share a common goal: improving the quality of life and communication skills of children with hearing impairments. This will facilitate the implementation of a formal and recognized partnership between audiometrists and hearing aid specialists. This partnership will not only lead to a more efficient clinical outcome, maximizing the return on diagnosis and treatment, but will also optimize the diagnostic and therapeutic process. The integration of this level of care reflects the future of pediatric audiological care, moving toward a multidisciplinary model focused on the entire patient team—the patient and their family—in terms of regulation, professional ethics, and contemporary evidence-based care, not so much for each individual but for the current model of care.
