The present work aims to analyze the importance of oral hygiene techniques, both at-home and professional, in geriatric patients with dental implants through a review of the scientific literature. The aging of the population and the increase in edentulism treated with implantology make a targeted preventive approach essential to maintain the health of peri-implant tissues. Six scientific studies were examined, selected according to relevance and recency criteria, which highlight how proper oral hygiene reduces the risk of mucositis and peri-implantitis. In particular, the combined use of a toothbrush, dental floss, and interdental brush proved effective in controlling biofilm formation. Some articles emphasize the importance of adapting oral hygiene instructions to the motor and cognitive limitations typical of elderly patients. Furthermore, the role of the dental hygienist is underlined, both in patient education and in the application of professional protocols such as air polishing with low-abrasive powders. The results confirm the importance of synergy between home care and regular professional maintenance to ensure the long-term success of implant rehabilitation in elderly patients.
