The thesis examines the contribution of Hugo Grotius to the birth of international law, placing his thought within the European context of the seventeenth century. Through the analysis of his main works, from Mare Liberum to De Iure Belli ac Pacis, it highlights how secular natural law became the universal foundation of relations among states. The research emphasizes the role of the “Grotian moment” and analyzes the legacy of Grotius’s thought, between enduring influences and modern critiques.
La tesi esamina il contributo di Ugo Grozio alla nascita del diritto internazionale, collocandolo nel contesto europeo del XVII secolo. Attraverso l’analisi delle opere principali, dal Mare liberum al De iure belli ac pacis, viene messo in luce come la legge naturale laica diventi fondamento universale dei rapporti tra Stati. La ricerca evidenzia il ruolo del “momento groziano” e analizza l’eredità del pensiero groziano, tra influenze durature e critiche moderne.
