This thesis analyzes the structural and ideological evolution of Louis-Sébastien Mercier's utopian and political thought by comparing two editions of his work "l'an 2440": the 1771 edition and the 1802 reworking. The aim of the thesis is to analyze how historical, social, and ideological changes influenced the author's second draft of the work. Through a comparative analysis of the texts and additional chapters, the transformation of the author's utopian vision is highlighted. The thesis aims to demonstrate how the transition from the Enlightenment to the Napoleonic era contributed to the evolution of his thinking on the relationship between the individual and the community, and the role of science, education, and religion.
