In recent years, there has been a global increase in mental disorders, foremost among them depression, which has affected all age groups, including the elderly, a population expected to double by 2050. Given the impact of this condition on quality of life, disability and mortality, as well as on the entire healthcare system, the aim of this review is to identify nursing interventions aimed at managing depression in older adults, with particular attention to the resulting risk of suicide. The research was conducted from May 2025 to August 2025 in the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases, including studies carried out on elderly individuals, published between 2020 and 2025, in English or Italian. After a careful assessment of the quality of the articles, nine studies were ultimately selected, representing three different study designs. The analysis highlighted the central role of nurses in caring of older adults with depression in various settings, in collaboration with other healthcare professionals. The main themes identified were the importance of time, the role of prevention, patient-centered care, the enhancemente of positive mood and continuity of care. Most of the interventions examined led to a reduction in depressive symptoms, while few addressed and showed benefits regarding suicidal ideation. This review ha contributed to a better understanding of the phenomenon of late-life depression and of the nursing strategies to be implemented in its management alongside pharmacological treatment. However, further studies are needed to explore its management from a nursing perspective.
