The thesis is divided into three sections. The first section presents an analysis of the topic of Environmental Peacebuilding, beginning with the formulation of the concept of Peacebuilding, continuing with the ambiguities surrounding the various definitions of Environmental Peacebuilding, examining its historical evolution — including a perspective focused on the development of the individual topics grouped under the thematic “umbrella” of Environmental Peacebuilding — and concluding with a review of the main critiques raised in the related literature. The second section analyzes different methodologies for the implementation of Environmental Peacebuilding, both from a theoretical perspective and in terms of potential practical applications in the pre-, in-, and post-conflict phases. It concludes with an examination of the failures of Peacebuilding efforts by the United Nations and the resulting new perspectives on Peace Sustaining. The third section explores the reasons why it is necessary to further develop Environmental Peacebuilding, providing specific examples in which competition over resources has caused conflicts, illustrating how climate change is exacerbating tensions, how the environment can be used as a weapon in violent conflicts, and how wars have inevitably caused large-scale environmental impacts. Finally, three successful examples of Environmental Peacebuilding are presented — one in Timor-Leste, one in Rwanda, and one in the Middle East — each accompanied by a critical analysis of the conditions for success and the aspects requiring further consideration. The thesis concludes with an acknowledgement of the links between environment and peace, as well as the potential limitations and risks, and the encouragement of future research and the practical application of Environmental Peacebuilding.

Abstract
The thesis concludes with an acknowledgement of the links between environment and peace, as well as the potential limitations and risks, and the encouragement of future research and the practical application of Environmental Peacebuilding.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
