Returning to work is the process through which an employee resumes their professional activities after a prolonged or temporary period of absence due to justified reasons, such as illness, injury, leave, unpaid leave, maternity, or paternity. The aim of this thesis is to explore more in depth the return to work after maternity and paternity leave, and the impact this has on both male and female workers, on both a personal and interpersonal level. Through a review of the existing literature on the construct of returning to work, recent articles will be examined, highlighting existing regulations and the tools necessary for a successful return to work, both in the context of maternity and paternity. Additionally, the experiences and emotions reported by both parents before, during, and after their return to work will be explored. Finally, support interventions for returning to work will be presented.
