The paper addresses the theme of neonatal aquaticity, defining it in its significance as a unique and formative experience for the growth of the child in the age range between 0 and 4 years. The first section clarifies the meaning of neonatal aquaticity and distinguishes the difference between a swimming course and an aquaticity course. Starting from an explanation of the properties of water known to ancient peoples, the work offers a historical-educational insight, referring to several important scholars in the field. It then analyzes the child’s motor development and the physical, psychological, and social benefits that the aquatic environment can promote. In the second part, the topic is explored from a sociological perspective. Through an analysis of the conception of childhood within this same framework, it is shown how the swimming pool can become a socialization environment in which the infant interacts with peers and adults (parents, instructors, or other adults). Particular attention is devoted to the role of the parent in this context and to the affective relationship that develops between parent and child. The second chapter concludes with the psychosocial development of the infant. Finally, the last part is dedicated to the candidate’s training and orientation internship experience. The activities carried out, the context, the people involved, and the dynamics observed are described and interpreted from a pedagogical-educational perspective.
