In this thesis, we present a translation of Eugénie Bastié’s essay Sauver la différence des sexes. To prepare the translation work, the essay is first examined through its discursive dimension, which is both polemical and argumentative. For this purpose, analytical tools from argumentative and polemical discourse analysis are employed. The essay is also situated within the broader framework of the French media debate surrounding gender theories, feminism, and the transformations of sexual identity, which reached its peak at the time of the essay’s publication. In a second stage, this study addresses the challenges involved in translating a text characterized by a strong ideological and polemical stance, as well as the choices faced by the translator when rendering a discourse of this nature. This research therefore lies at the intersection of discourse analysis and translation studies, highlighting in particular the challenges inherent in translating an argumentative and polemical essay.
