This thesis investigates children’s literature translation as an act of linguistic and cultural mediation, addressing the specific needs of readers still developing cognitively and emotionally. The first chapter outlines the theoretical framework — from the historical rise of children’s literature to key translation theories — while the core of the work focuses on the Spanish novel Imania (2021) by Mónica García Llamazares. Written for 9–10-year-olds, the book tackles sensitive topics such as loss and resilience through accessible yet poetic language. The second chapter presents a bilingual translation of the text, discussing lexical choices, register, wordplay, and cultural references. The third chapter analyses the translation strategies applied to balance fidelity and adaptation, preserving emotional tone, rhythm, and educational impact. The study highlights the translator’s creative and ethical responsibility to remain faithful to the original while making it meaningful and engaging for Italian young readers.
La tesi esplora la traduzione letteraria per l’infanzia come pratica di mediazione linguistica e culturale, con particolare attenzione alle esigenze di un pubblico in crescita cognitiva ed emotiva. Dopo aver delineato nel primo capitolo il quadro teorico — dall’evoluzione storica della letteratura per bambini alle principali teorie traduttologiche — il lavoro si concentra sul caso di studio del romanzo spagnolo Imania (2021) di Mónica García Llamazares. L’opera, destinata a lettori di 9-10 anni, affronta temi delicati come perdita e resilienza attraverso un linguaggio accessibile ma ricco di immagini poetiche. Il secondo capitolo propone la traduzione bilingue del testo, analizzando scelte lessicali, registro, giochi di parole e riferimenti culturali. Il terzo capitolo riflette sulle strategie adottate, bilanciando fedeltà e adattamento per preservare tono emotivo, musicalità e funzione educativa. La ricerca mette in luce il ruolo creativo e responsabile del traduttore, chiamato a rispettare l’opera originale e, al contempo, a renderla significativa per i giovani lettori italiani.
