"L'amica geniale" di Elena Ferrante: questioni di autorialità e poetiche della finzione

Elena Ferrante is a writer known worldwide for her novels, especially for the series My Brilliant Friend, which was so successful that it was even adapted into a television series. After the quadrilogy was reviewed by American critic James Wood, a media scandal erupted in Italy: it proved very important to discover the writer's true identity, to finally associate success with a face. The general chatter distances the audience from the centrality of the texts, the true protagonists of the story. Although nothing is actually known about the real person behind the name Elena Ferrante, books are a fundamental means of encounter: readers have the strong impression of being faced with an autobiography, a possibility that, once examined by reason, should be discarded. Writing is situated on the very sensitive and tenuous boundary between fiction and non-fiction, while the figure of the writer becomes blurred: real or not, it is a ghostly presence, strengthened in its existence by the collections La fragmaglia and L'invenzione occasionale. The paper proposes to explore some themes: the role that Naples has played in achieving international success as a strongly characterized periphery but capable of representing the many peripheries of the world. A geographical margin, inhabited by equally marginal human figures, male to especially female figures. And Feminism, experienced more or less consciously by the two protagonists, a powerful reading tool for all the events that characterize the lives of Lila and Lenù. The work therefore offers a general investigation into the contents of the quadrilogy, attempting to dwell on the points I found most important and the themes that, when I read the novels, I found most stimulating.

Elena Ferrante è una scrittrice conosciuta in tutto il mondo per i suoi romanzi, soprattutto per la serie L’amica geniale che ha avuto talmente tanto successo da essere anche adattata a serie televisiva. Dopo che la quadrilogia è stata recensita dal critico americano James Wood, in Italia scoppia un caso mediatico: risulta essere molto importante scoprire la vera identità della scrittrice, per associare finalmente il successo ad un volto. Il chiacchiericcio generale allontana il pubblico dalla centralità dei testi, veri protagonisti della vicenda. Nonostante non si sappia effettivamente nulla della reale persona che si cela dietro al nome Elena Ferrante, i libri sono un fondamentale mezzo d’incontro: chi legge ha la forte impressione di trovarsi davanti ad un’autobiografia, possibilità che, una volta vagliata dalla ragione, è da scartare. La scrittura è situata sul confine molto sensibile e labile tra finzione e non finzione mentre la figura della scrittrice si sfoca: reale o meno, è una presenza fantasmatica, rafforzata nella sua esistenza dalle raccolte La frantumaglia e L’invenzione occasionale. L’elaborato propone di esplorare alcuni temi: il ruolo che Napoli ha avuto nel raggiungimento del successo internazionale in quanto periferia fortemente connotata ma capace di rappresentare le tante periferie del mondo. Un margine geografico, abitato da figure umane altrettanto marginali, figure maschili a soprattutto femminili. E il femminismo, vissuto più o meno consapevolmente dalle due protagoniste, potente strumento di lettura per tutte le vicende che caratterizzano la vita di Lila e Lenù. Lo scritto, quindi, propone un’indagine generale sui contenuti della quadrilogia, cercando di soffermarsi sui punti che ho trovato più importanti e sulle tematiche che, quando ho letto i romanzi, ho trovato più stimolanti.
