Tourism is one of the most significant socio-economic phenomena of contemporary society, exerting a strong influence on local and global economies. Over time, it has evolved from an elite activity into a mass phenomenon, giving rise to different tourism models. Among these, mass tourism and experiential tourism represent contrasting yet interconnected approaches. While mass tourism has increased travel accessibility and generated economic benefits, it has also led to issues such as the standardization of experiences, loss of cultural authenticity, and negative environmental impacts. In response to these challenges, experiential tourism has emerged as a more conscious, authentic, and sustainable form of travel. This study explores experiential tourism by examining its main characteristics, advantages, challenges, and future perspectives, comparing it with the mass tourism model. Special emphasis is placed on the concepts of authenticity and sustainability, highlighting the role of local communities, responsible practices, and governance strategies in fostering balanced tourism development. The analysis shows that experiential tourism can represent a viable and sustainable alternative, capable of enhancing cultural and natural heritage while mitigating the negative effects of traditional tourism.

Abstract
The analysis shows that experiential tourism can represent a viable and sustainable alternative, capable of enhancing cultural and natural heritage while mitigating the negative effects of traditional tourism.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
