This thesis will retrace the construction of the witch as a woman, exploring the origins of the stereotypes that have persisted to this day. It will pay particular attention to magic and how it was perceived by common people and elites before the witchcraft paradigm emerged. It will highlight the key stages of this transformation, always focusing on gender issues.

In questa tesi si ripercorrerà la costruzione della strega in quanto donna, ricercando l'origine degli stereotipi arrivati fino ad oggi. Si porrà particolare attenzione alla magia e a come questa veniva percepita dalla gente comune e dalle élite, prima che si affermasse il paradigma stregonesco. Si evidenzieranno i passaggi fondamentali di questa trasformazione, ponendo sempre l'attenzione sulla questione di genere.
