Sexuality education in Italian schools has been the subject of numerous debates and controversies from 1975 to the present day. The most recent legislative measure, the Valditara Bill, excludes sexuality-related activities from primary and preschool education. This thesis, developed within the framework of the Green Dialogues project, highlights the importance of Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) from early childhood, emphasizing its contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, particularly in relation to health promotion, quality education, and child protection. The study includes two observational research projects. The first, “From Head to Toe: The Human Body Through Children’s Eyes”, involved individual interviews with 5-year-old preschool children and aimed to investigate their lexical knowledge of the sexual parts of the human body, a key element in the prevention and reporting of possible abuse. The second study, “Sexuality Education in Preschool: Opinions and Perceptions of Pre-service Teachers”, explored, through a questionnaire, the perceptions of students in the Primary Education degree program regarding early sexuality education and the recent Valditara Bill. The findings reveal limited terminological knowledge among 5-year-old children, alongside strong support from future teachers for early sexuality education and marked opposition to recent legislative measures. These results highlight the need for systematic CSE aimed at promoting children’s well-being and dignity.

Abstract
These results highlight the need for systematic CSE aimed at promoting children’s well-being and dignity.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
